FGCU women climbing in polls
One week after breaking into the AP Top 25 basketball poll, the FGCU women’s team climbed to No. 21 in the rankings released Tuesday.
The Eagles also checked in at No. 22 in the USA Today Coaches’ Poll.
The Eagles (25-2) are riding a winning streak that reached 20 in a row over the weekend. It’s the fourth-best streak in the nation behind No. 14 Princeton, No. 3 Baylor, No 1 Connecticut and tied with No.18 Chattanooga.
The Eagles clinched their fifth-straight Atlantic Sun Conference regular season championship last weekend with a victory at USC Upstate. The Eagles will enjoy home-court advantage throughout the S-Sun Tournament (March 6-15) as the No. 1 seed.
FGCU has won 23 of its last 24 games and is a perfect 12-0 in conference play this season.
The Eagles join Princeton, Chattanooga and George Wash-ington as the mid-majors in this week’s AP Top 25 and stands ahead of GW, Syracuse, California and Northwestern.
