Baker edges Riverdale 3-2
Ida Baker continued its early season winning streak Thursday night by knocking off Riverdale 3-2 with a walk-off sacrifice fly with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Luke Endsley got the winning rally started with a one-out single. Darren LaTorre followed with a single sending Endsley to third. After an intentional walk to Gianni Williams to load the bases, Trevor Moore drove in the game-winning run with a sac-fly to center. Moore doubled earlier in the game.
The Bulldogs (5-0) overcame a 2-0 deficit that the Raiders established with two runs in the fifth inning. Baker struck back with single runs in the fifth and sixth innings on RBI singles by LaTorre and Christian Profitt.
Bryce Van Horn (2-0) pitched seven innings allowing two earned runs while striking out four to pick up the win.
The Bulldogs travel to South Fort Myers on Friday.
Mariner 18, Lehigh 2: Mariner scored 10 runs in the first inning to set the stage for Thursday night’s five-inning, mercy rule victory over Lehigh.
The Tritons tacked on six more runs in the second inning and finished off the Lightning with two more in the fourth.
Mason Eicher led the Tritons with three hits, including a double. Christian Velez drove in four runs with four hits, including a pair of doubles. Andy Arsenault also contributed a pair of doubles.
Brandon Feehery (1-0) struck out three batters over three innings to earn the victory on the mound. The Tritons (2-2) host Immokalee on Friday.
Cape Coral 7, Riverdale 2: Dylan Bontrager sprayed four hits while Terry Tates and Kyle Arjona contributed two hits apiece to lead Cape Coral’s victory over Riverdale Thursday night.
Arjona drove in three runs and Alex Perez two in the nine-hit, three-error performance. North committed five errors and garnered two hits in the loss.
The Seahawks (3-1) scored four runs in the first inning to grab the lead, adding another run in the second and two in the sixth to put the game out of reach. The Red Knights finished with two hits and five errors.
Josh Feliciano ( 2-0) struck out nine batters over four innings to pick up the win. The Seahawks host Golden Gate on Friday.
Oasis 24, Manatee 3: Oasis struck for 14 runs in the first inning Thursday in the Sharks’ 18-hit assault on the Manatee Heat.
Jake Hadden led the Sharks with three base hits while Adam Darlin and Joe Mikulus contributed two apiece. Baylee Smith drove in three runs and pitched three innings with three strikeouts to earn the mound decision.
The Sharks play at Dunbar on Tuesday.
Softball
Cape Coral 15, South Fort Myers 0: Makenzie Buss collected three hits, including a pair of doubles, scored three runs and stole three bases Thursday night to lead Cape Coral to an ugly mercy-rule shutout victory over South Fort Myers.
Buss (3-1) also was the winning pitcher allowing no runs while striking out four over three innings. Danielle Smith contributed two hits with a double and scored two runs as well.
The Seahawks (4-1) host Golden Gate on Friday.
