Hunter leads Tritons to 67-52 win
As in so many games already this season, senior Rodney Hunter led Mariner to a 67-52 victory Monday night at Southwest Florida Christian.
Hunter topped the Tritons offensively with 24 points, the third straight game and fourth in the last five with 20 or more points. He also had a team-high six rebounds, which he shared with freshman Jacob Tracey who contributed a career-high 14 points. Jamel Myers hit double figures with 10 points.
“We were up 39-27 at the half and sealed it with free throws late,” said Tritons coach James Harris. “It’s another win against a ranked team in the state. That’s a good sign for us. I’m proud of the guys’ determination after losing at Lehigh on Saturday.”
The Tritons (17-5) have three more games in this final week of the regular season, starting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at home against Gulf Coast.

Port Charlotte 52, Ida Baker 13: Yearlong struggles continued for Ida Baker Monday night as the No. 5 seed absorbed a beating at Port Charlotte in the first round of the District 6A-11 tournament.
“We struggled all year with our skill level,” said Bulldogs coach Terry Smith. “Port Charlotte is a good team, but we had a lot of young kids, freshmen and sophomores.”
The Bulldogs finish the season 2-23 while fourth-seeded Port Charlotte advances to face top-seeded Venice in the semifinals Wednesday night in Venice. North Fort Myers visits No. 2 Island Coast Wednesday in the other semifinal matchup. The winners face off Friday night in the championship game.
