Cape Coral ran into a buzzsaw Tuesday night in the form of Lehigh as the state top-10-ranked Lightning cruised to a 67-27 victory.

“They got off to a quick start,” said Seahawks coach Tom Kenna. “They area a great team and they may win state.”

The Seahawks were led by Jake Atkins with eight points and James Trammel with six.

“We got some good shots, but turned the ball over way too much,” added Kenna.

The Seahawks (5-11) host Golden Gate on Friday, their third straight top-10-ranked opponent.

Port Charlotte 76, Island Coast 50: Sam Merchant and Craig Sirmons accounted for all but eight of Island Coast’s points in Tuesday’s loss at Port Charlotte.

Merchant hit for 30 points to go with six rebounds coming in off the bench while Sirmons had 12 and 11 boards.

“We need some others to step up and fill the void,” said Gators coach Greg Coleman. “We only had five players score tonight, but they (Port Charlotte) are a very good team. Turnovers and free throws were not a factor.”

The Gators (10-6) host Ida Baker on Friday.

Mariner 67, East Lee County 25: A trio of players scored in double figures Tuesday night as Mariner mauled East Lee County.

The Tritons opened a 29-5 lead at the end of the first quarter and led 52-17 at the half, engaging a running clock for the entire second half. Rodney Hunter and Isaiah Darrett scored 14 points apiece and Sean Kostyk 11 for the Tritons (10-3), who host Cypress Lake on Friday.

LaBelle 45, Bishop Verot 38: LaBelle ran its record to 14-1 Tuesday night with a seven-point victory at Bishop Verot.

Matt Medovich scored a game-high 14 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, the only Vikings player to reach double figures.

Dan Keller and Mike Lopez each tallied 12 points to lead the Cowboys. The Vikings (7-8) host St. John Neumann on Wednesday.
