Gators cruise past Bulldogs

Island Coast jumped out in front from the opening tip and coasted to a 77-47 victory Tuesday night at Ida Baker.

The Gators had 11 players get into the scoring column, led by Matt Jeannelas with 19 points, seven rebounds, Craig Sirmons with 18 points, 11 rebounds, and Gabe Muhammad with 13 points, five rebounds and four assists.

Baker was led by Derrick Loza with a game-high 20 points with help from Devin Hanley with 13 points.

The Gators led 25-8 at the end of the first quarter and still led by 12 at the half before pulling away in the second half.

The Gators (3-1, 1-0 district) play at Charlotte Wednesday while Baker (0-4) visits Cypress Lake on Thursday.

LaBelle 77, Bishop Verot 51: Bishop Verot had little success against unbeaten LaBelle Tuesday night, suffering a lopsided defeat on the road.

Jordan Lopez led the Cowboys with a game-high 21 followed by Danny Keller with 20 and Mike Lopez with 13.

Verot got 17 points from Austin Mosbach and 10 from Stephen Wagner. The Vikings (2-2) visit Gateway Charter on Thursday.

Boys Soccer

Mariner 8, Island Coast 0: Ray Gerke knocked in four goals to lead Mariner’s victory Tuesday over district rival Island Coast.

Steven Schwab, Trevor Jurkowski, Tom Diller and Austen Hopson each added one goal. Joey Lane was credited with two assists as was Schwab with Jurkowski adding one assist.

Goalkeeper Alex Collazo had two saves for the Tritons (6-1-1, 2-0-1 district), who play again Wednesday at Estero.

Bishop Verot 1, Clewiston 0: The game’s lone goal by Nathan Powers was enough for Bishop Verot to claim victory Tuesday at Immokalee.

Vikings keeper Ricardo Martinez made 18 saves to preserve the shutout. The Vikings (6-1-1) host Gulf Coast Wednesday.

Girls Basketball

Cypress Lake 76, Mariner 19: Playing their fifth game in seven days, the Tritons players appeared gassed on the offensive end of the floor Tuesday night in a lopsided loss to Cypress Lake.

Kiera Bateman had six points to lead the Tritons (6-3), who host Evangelical Christian on Thursday.

Immokalee 48, Oasis 44: Oasis took one on the chin Tuesday night after falling behind at Immokalee by double digits.

The Sharks rallied down the stretch to make it close despite foul trouble, led by Samantha Wood with 11 points and Jordan Westendorf with nine.

The Sharks (4-5-3) play Thursday at Dunbar

Girls Soccer

North Fort Myers 1, South Fort Myers 0: Randi Lukas’ goal in the middle of the first half held up Tuesday night as North Fort Myers edges South Fort Myers.

Gabby Ciancimino assisted on the goal off a play in the corner she directed at the net. South’s keeper made a play on the ball and Lukas cleaned it up with the score.

North keeper Jacquie Scrivanka made two saves to preserve the win.

The Red Knights (9-1, 4-0 district) play at Mariner Friday night.

Mariner 8, Island Coast 0: A scoring hat trick by Holly Fritz and freshman Julissa Chimelis Tuesday night led Mariner to victory over Island Coast.

Senior Amanda Cox and freshman Karleigh Acosta each contributed one goal the the cause. The Tritons (6-1-2) visit Estero on Wednesday.

Bishop Verot 5, Clewiston 2: Maddie Sarnac scored two goals Tuesday night to lead Bishop Verot to a district victory over Clewiston.

Vikings goalkeeper Kinzie Frey made seven saves on the night. Lauren Lockard, Kiera Clay and Samantha Domckowski each added one goal for the Vikings (6-4-2, 4-0 district), who visit Dunbar on Thursday.
