Baker squanders lead in season opening loss

Ida Baker was outscored 22-10 Monday night in the fourth quarter in a stunning loss to Southwest Florida Christian 59-51 in the regular season opening game at the Dog Pound.

Baker took a 41-37 lead into the final period only to lose in the end. SWFC converted 26 of 39 free throws in the game to preserve the win.

Derrick Loaza led the Bulldogs in scoring with 17 points and Ronny Calderon grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

The Bulldogs (0-1) host Mariner on Thursday.

Girls Basketball

Bishop Verot 45, Golden Gate 42: Olivia Woolam scored a team-high 22 points Monday night to lead Verot to a three-point victory at Golden Gate and preserve the Vikings’ unbeaten record.

Kathryn Crowley chipped in with 12 points for the Vikings (4-0), who host Oasis on Tuesday.
