Gators advance in Swamp Romp

Leanne Ellis connected for a team-high 12 points Thursday night to lead Island Coast past Donahue Academy 29-21 in the Gators’ Romp in the Swamp shootout.

Kaytlin Goodwin and Cherelle Washington contributed to the win by grabbing nine and eight rebounds apiece, respectively.

The Gators (1-1) take on South Miami Senior Thursday night in the championship game of the shootout. Senior advanced with a 65-60 win over Lehigh.

North Fort Myers 43, Oasis 40: Oasis came oh, so close, to knocking off North Fort Myers Thursday night only to be thwarted in the final four second by Katelyn Kelly’s game-winning three-point basket.

Lindsay Stramel led the Red Knights with 17 points, but Samantha Wood of Oasis led all scorers with 21 points.

The Sharks (1-1) let a four-point lead slip away in the final minutes. They are in action again on Monday when they host Lehigh.

Mariner 52, Evangelical Christian 44: Grace Waller pitched in 15 points Thursday night and Katie Adams pulled down 10 rebounds to lead the Tritons to their first season victory.

Mariah Ortiz added nine points toward the victory as did Adams.

The Tritons (1-1) host Ida Baker next Thursday.

Bishop Verot 39, Out-of-Door 28: Bishop Verot kept its early season record unblemished Thursday night with a victory at Out-of-Door.

The Vikings were led offensively by Olivia Woolam’s 16 points with 10 rebounds apiece from Ashley Holleran and Bailey Russell.

Boys Soccer

Ida Baker 5, Evangelical Christian 1: Baker got two goals apiece from Brandon Taylor and Diego Silva Thursday night en route to a victory over Evangelical Christian.

The win leaved the Bulldogs with a spotless 5-0 record in the new season. They visit Barron Collier on Monday.

Andrew Falk scored the other Baker goal and goalkeeper Trey Crispin made five saves to preserve the victory.

Mariner 3, Riverdale 1: Three different players scored for Mariner Thursday night en route to victory over Riverdale.

Erick Rivera put the Tritons on the board with his goal in the first half. Joey Lane and Ray Gerke added goals in the second half to provide the winning margin. Goalkeeper Alex Collazo made just two saves to pick up the win.

“It wasn’t pretty, but our center-back Austin Turner stayed poised and kept it under control,” said Tritons coach Martin Cardenas.

The Tritons (4-0) host Lehigh on Friday.

Bishop Verot 2, LaBelle 1: Adrien Urquiola and Nick Petrozzi scores goals for Bishop Verot in Thusday’s victory over LaBelle.

Goalkeeper Ricardo Martinez made 10 saves to preserve the win. The Vikings play at Evangelical Christian Friday night.
