Baker, Cape, Mariner stay unbeaten

Ida Baker continues its early season run in boys’ soccer with a 7-1 victory Wednesday night over North Fort Myers.

Cody Grover and Andrew Falk led the Bulldogs with two goals apiece. Landon Day, Joe Dibella and Edwin Alvarez contributed one goal apiece. Goalkeeper Trey Crispin made six saves and Christian Bran added two saves to preserve the win.

The Bulldogs (4-0), who led 3-0 at halftime, host Evangelical Christian on Thursday.

Cape Coral 3, South Fort Myers 0: Three different players scored second-half goals to lead Cape Coral to a shutout victory at South Fort Myers Wednesday night in their first district match of the season.

Camilo Avendano scored two goals to lead the Seahawks with James Smith adding one goal. Christopher Iturbe was credited with two assists and Mateo Arengo one assist. The Seahawks keeper faced no save opportunities.

The Seahawks (3-0, 1-0 district) play at Mariner on Tuesday.

Mariner 2, Lemon Bay 0: Ray Gerke’s first-half goal was all the Tritons needed Wednesday night en route to a shutout win at Lemon Bay.

Trevor Jurkowski added an insurance goal in the second half. Gerke and Erick Rivera were credited with assists. Goalkeeper Alex Collazo made two saves to preserve the shut out.

Tom Diller, Steven Schwab, Austin Turner and Austin Hobson were credited with effective defensive play. The Tritons (3-0) play Thursday at Riverdale.

Girls Soccer

Island Coast 8, East Lee County 0: Jessica Berry, Riley Hare and Cassandra Aguilar collected two goals apiece Wednesday night to propel Island Coast past East Lee County.

Macenzie Hare and Kallie Kania each contributed one goal. With zero saves, the Gators (2-2-1) play at Fort Myers on Thursday.

Mariner 8, Lemon Bay 0: Senior Holly Fritz knocked home four goals to lead Mariner’s shutout victory Wednesday night over Lemon Bay.

Freshman Julissa Chimelis added two goals with Cheyenne Rentsch and Sophia Restrepo each contributing one goal.

The Tritons (3-0-1) host Riverdale on Thursday.

Girls Basketball

Oasis 47, Riverdale 22: Jordan Westendorf, fresh off the Sharks’ record-setting run deep into the state volleyball playoffs, pitched in a team-high 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds Wednesday to lead Oasis to victory at Riverdale.

Samantha Wood contributed 11 points to the season-opening victory.

The Sharks (1-0) host North Fort Myers on Thursday.

Bishop Verot 51, Estero 41: Three players reached double figures in scoring Wednesday night to lead Bishop Verot to victory at Estero.

Kathryn Crowley led the trio with 14 points, Olivia Woolam added 12 points and Ashley Holleran 10 points. Bailey Russell pitched in with a team-high 14 rebounds.

The Vikings (2-0) travel to Out-of-Door Academy on Thursday.
