Cape, Mariner remain blemish-free
Cape Coral and Mariner improved to 2-0 in the new boys’ soccer season Wednesday night by posting victories.
The Seahawks relied on goals by three different players in the second half to blank Port Charlotte 3-0. Mariner got a pair of goals from Erick Rivers en route to a 2-1 win over Fort Myers.
Giani Cognata, Jonathan Jiminez and Xavier Torres scored for the Seahawks in the final 40 minutes to provide the winning margin. Jiminez and Cognata each were credited with one assist. Goalkeeper Kyal Weber made four saves to preserve the shutout.
The Seahawks (2-0) host Vero Beach on Friday.
Mariner 2, Fort Myers 1: Rivera’s two goals in the second half lifted the Tritons over the Green Wave to overcome a 1-0 halftime deficit.
Ray Gerke and Joey Lane were credited with assists with goalkeeper Alex Colazzo providing five saves. Austin Turner and Austin Hopston provided excellent defensive efforts along with Tom Diller.
The Tritons (2-0) play at Lemon Bay on Wednesday.
Girls Soccer
North Fort Myers 4, Barron Collier 1: Madison Lampkins scored two goals and added one assist in leading North to victory Wednesday at Barron Collier.
Taylor Kruse and Randi Lukas tacked on single goals apiece with Nicole Paquin and Tori Kowalyczk adding assists. Goalkeeper Coral Jarvis had three saves in the victory.
The Red Knights (3-0, 1-0 district) play again at Palmetto Ridge on Thursday.
Cape Coal 1, Port Charlotte 0: Freshman Sara Magin scored the game’s only goal off an assist by Cheyenne Smith in Cape Coral’s shutout win over Port Charlotte Wednesday night.
Goalkeeper Nicole Ramos made 26 saves to preserve the victory. The Seahawks are in action again on Friday when they host Lemon Bay at 5:30 p.m.
