Oasis sweeps Clewiston
The record setting season for Oasis volleyball was extended Tuesday night with a 25-3, 25-9, 25-14 triumph over Clewiston in the Region 4A-3 playoffs at Oasis.
“Our first district title and now our first regional win,” said Sharks coach James Mikolajczyk. “Our game plan was to serve aggressively and return serve and our girls were effective in that. Right now we are playing our volleyball game and we’re still hungry.”
The Sharks (20-8) advance to the Region 4A-3 semifinal round next Tuesday and should host district rival Bishop Verot which the Sharks defeated to claim the school’s first district volleyball title last week.
Verot advanced Tuesday night by sweeping Lincoln Park in Fort Pierce 25-12, 25-6, 25-12
Tiffani Schram served up 13 aces to lead the Sharks and added 10 assists with four digs. Larra Bickelhaupt delivered five kills, eight digs and six aces. Sisters Sam Bebber finished with eight kills and Danielle Bebber six kills with four aces.
Elsewhere in regional volleyball Tuesday night, Barron Collier eliminated North Fort Myers 25-16, 25-19, 25-15 in Region 6A-3 with Venice knocking off Naples 25-17, 25-6, 25-13. Venice visits Barron Collier in the regional semifinal next week.
Girls Soccer
Cape Coral 2, Oasis 2 (tie): An unassisted goal by Makenzie Buss late in the second half Tuesday night lifted Cape Coral to a tie with Oasis in the season opener for both teams.
Goalkeeper Nicole Ramos recorded 28 saves while surrendering two penalty kick goals. Cape’s other goal actually was an own goal.
The Seahawks (0-0-1) travel to Lehigh next Tuesday.
Island Coast 1, Cypress Lake 1 (tie): A goal by Alex Taylor with about 20 minutes remaining Tuesday night enabled Island Coast to come back and tie Cypress Lake in the season opening match for both teams.
A free kick was deflected to Taylor by Riley Hare leading to the tying goal. Goalkeeper Sharon Churlin had seven saves for the Gators (0-0-1), who host Gateway Charter on Wednesday.
North Fort Myers 3, Bishop Verot 0: Madison Lampkins scored three unassisted goals Tuesday night as North Fort Myers shut out Bishop Verot in the season opening match for both teams.
Lampkins scored on a corner kick, a 30-yard rocket and a left-footer inside the 18-yard box. Goalkeeper Coral Jarvis made two saves to preserve the shutout.
The Red Knights (1-0) play at Barron Collier on Monday.
Fort Myers 2, Ida Baker 2 (tie): Ida Baker gave up a two-run lead and settled for a tie Tuesday night in its home field season opening match against Fort Myers.
Roxie Fraser and Gabi Morales scored goals in the game’s first 20 minutes to stake the Bulldogs to a 2-0 lead. Freshman goalkeeper Acelya Aydogmus made 11 saves to keep the Bulldogs in the game and preserve the tie.
Fort Myers scored one goal in the first half and added the second in the first 10 minutes of the second to force the tie.
The Bulldogs (0-0-1) play at Barron Collier on Tuesday.
Bowling
District 6 Tournament: Cape Coral’s girls took third place Tuesday in the district tourney posting the second-highest pinfall in the first half of 1,999, defeated South Fort Myers 3-2, lost to Island Coast 3-2 and lost to South Fort Myers 3-0 in the second half.
Mia Raymond rolled 138, 179 and 151 for a total of 468 in the first half for the Seahawks. Teamate Kaela Ruby contributed to the 1,999 total by rolling 214, 184 and 186 for 584.
