Island Coast, Cape Coral and Ida Baker are out to solidify their postseason playoff destiny tonight with significant games in their respective districts.

The Seahawks (6-1, 3-1 district) can lock up one District 5A-14 playoff berth with a victory at third-place Dunbar (2-4, 2-1) while the district leading Gators (6-1, 4-0) cross the bridge to take on Cypress Lake (2-4, 0-3) and clinch the other playoff spot.

Gators coach Wayne Blair said he’s not thinking about the district, just focusing on this one game.

“It’s hard being in a big district,” Blair said. “I came from a three-team district. It’s tough having that many district games.

“I anticipated (winning district), but it’s one of those things that we were able to get here. We had a rigorous district schedule. What we did in the offseason prepared the kids to be where we are.”

In a two-horse race for the District 6A-12 championship, Baker (4-3, 1-0) is hosting South Fort Myers (5-2, 1-0) to determine which team gains home field advantage for the regional quarterfinals.

“We’ve talked about it a lot, but it’s a different situation than last year when we were unbeaten going in,” said Bulldogs coach Brian Conn. “Nobody expects us to win this year so there’s not much pressure on us.

“We have to play perfect football. We’ve had some good games offensively and defensively, but we have to put it together, limit the turnovers and penalties.”

Conn said that his chief concern with the Wolfpack is they are capable of making big plays.

Tonight’s schedule also includes Mariner (0-7, 0-3) hosting Lemon Bay (3-3, 1-2) in District 5A-14 action; Bishop Verot (3-3, 1-0) travels to St. Petersburg Catholic (0-5, 0-2) for a non-district contest and Oasis (2-3) hosts Families Instructing Students Homeschool (FISH) (5-2).

Other area games of interest tonight include East Lee County (0-6, 0-1) paying a visit to Lehigh (1-5, 0-1); Evangelical Christian (4-3, 1-1) hosting Marco Island (2-4, 0-2); Charlotte (4-2, 1-0) hosting a District 7A-11 showdown with Fort Myers (6-0, 1-0); Riverdale (3-3, 0-1) entertaining Port Charlotte (5-3, 0-1); Southwest Florida Christian (1-3) visiting Canterbury (1-2); and Gateway Charter (1-5) hosting St. John Neumann (3-4, 2-1).
