Oasis sweeps Gateway Charter
Oasis took another step toward putting together a record setting volleyball season Tuesday night with a straight-set 25-11, 25-7, 25-18 victory against District 4A-11 rival Gateway Charter.
The Sharks (14-7, 5-2) appear headed to their best district finish with one district match to go Thursday night at Dunbar.
“It was a good night,” said Sharks coach James Mikolajczyk. “We need to take care of business Thursday night and we will earn our highest seed ever of No. 2 in district. We have to play within ourselves and execute and we will be looking at a historic year.”
The Sharks were led Tuesday by Tiffany Schramm with four kills, five service aces, two blocks, five digs and 21 total assists. Larra Bickelhaupt delivered nine kills, one ace and five digs while Sam Webber had seven kills, one ace, one block and eight digs.
Venice 3, Ida Baker 0: After a cool start, Ida Baker picked up its performance Monday night, but was unable to counter Venice in a 25-9, 25-20, 25-18 loss.
Kristina Kayatta led the Bulldogs with six kills and nine digs. She had help from Devon Ramey with four kills and seven digs with Amanda Gross adding three blocks, nine assists and five digs.
The Bulldogs (10-7, 1-3 district) host Gateway Charter Thursday night in their home finale of the season.
Bowling
At Coral Lanes: Cape Coral swept crosstown rival Mariner 3-2 Tuesday.
Kaela Ruby led the Seahawks to a 3-2 win rolling a high game of 177 as Cape outscored Mariner.
Alyx Parkinson’s high game of 211 led the Seahawk boys to victory. The Seahawks improve to 7-1 with a 3-2 victory.
The Seahawks (6-2) host North Fort Myers on Thursday at Coral Lanes.
Boys Golf
At Royal Tee CC – LaBelle claimed medalists honors for Chandler McCormick with a round of 42 Tuesday that led the Cowboys to a 196-223 victory over Cape Coral.
Joseph Edwards shot 49 to lead the Seahawks.
