Coaches name North’s Kelly to All-Region
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association released its High School All-America and All-Region team rosters this week.
Katelyn Kelly of North Fort Myers High was selected as an outfielder to the third team All-America roster. She also was named first team South All-Region.
Kelly hit .521 for the 22-6 Red Knights as a junior this past season. She also drove in 16 runs with 49 base hits, 12 of those for extra bases, stole 23 bases and scored 42 runs. She is a three-sport letter-winner in basketball, volleyball and softball at North.In all, 37 schools are represented on the three 16-player All-America squads while 160 players from 92 schools make up two squads in each of the five regions.
North Carolina’s Alexander Central, the top-ranked team in the USA Today/NFCA High School Top 25 Poll, tied with Bridgewater-Raynham (Mass.), Deer Park (Texas) and Pearland (Texas) for the most players honored, with three apiece.
Meanwhile, No. 18-ranked The Woodlands of Texas, No. 20 Immaculate Heart Academy (N.J.) and Washburn Rural (Kansas) each scored two selections.
The NFCA High School All-America teams are selected by a committee of member head coaches from the pool of players who earned first team All-Region recognition.
