Matt Marshall

One Cape Coral BMX racer captured the prestigious No. 1 plate and Presidents Cup title at the USA BMX Race of Champions on Nov. 29 in Tulsa, Okla. The “indescribable” achievement brings Matt Marshall, 11, one win from stepping up from Intermediate to Expert Class.

Marshall, a Trafalgar Middle School 6th grader, is headed to the Tampa BMX State Qualifier on Jan. 4 to race against the best of the best BMXers in Florida. When he achieves Expert status, he can carry that until the age of 18 when he is then old enough to become a Pro rider.

Marshall plans to focus this next year on training hard, making the mains and placing well in the 2014 State BMX season. In his racing career he has competed in 551 motos twice, and too many quarters and semis to count.

Matt races for GHP BMX Racing Team based at the Cape Coral BMX Track. He already holds the 2013 Florida State second-place title, just one point shy of the first-place title.

It’s all in or nothing for Matt and his family who have traveled to seven National USA BMX and several State races in order to compete for these titles.
