2 min read

The Jupiter Hammerheads snapped the Fort Myers Miracle six-game winning streak with a convincing 20-2 win at Hammond Stadium Saturday night.

For the first time in six nights, the Miracle scored first with a run in the opening inning. After a leadoff strikeout, James Beresford and Brian Dozier picked up back-to-back singles. Designated hitter Nick Romero then doubled down the right field line to score Beresford to give the Miracle the early 1-0 lead.

The Hammerheads gained control in the second inning with a five-run outburst sparked by Jeremy Synan’s three-run homer over the wall in right.

Jupiter sent 12 hitters to the plate in the fourth and pushed across six. Dallas Pouk, Jose Duarte, and Jeff Dominguez all registered RBI hits and Daniel Pertusati had a two-run double.

The Miracle bounced back with a run in the bottom of the inning on an RBI hit from Ramon Santana.

With an 11-2 lead, Jupiter poured on more runs in the fifth with a seven-run uprising that included a grand slam by Duarte. The Hammerheads center fielder was 1-for-19 against the Miracle, but picked up five RBI and two hits.

Beresford remained hot with a three-hit night, Dozier picked up a pair of hits, and Santana registered five RBI in the five-game homestand.

Tom Stuifbergen (0-1) started for the Miracle and lasted 1 2/3 innings, allowing five hits. Only one of the five runs charged to Stuifbergen was earned. Shooter Hunt made a two-inning appearance and gave up six runs on five hits.

Matthew Montgomery (1-1) picked up his first win for the Hammerheads, lasting six innings and giving up a pair of runs.

The Miracle (18-12) returns to the diamond Monday at Jupiter (15-15).
