Seahawks halt 3-game skid
The Cape Coral Seahawks halted a three-game losing streak with a 12-2 District 4A-11 victory Tuesday night at South Fort Myers.
Brandon Marshall (4-3) pitched a three-hitter over six scoreless innings and Stefan Groening closed it out in relief despite giving up two runs in the seventh inning.
The Seahawks banged out 14 total hits, led by Brad Kopale with three hits and two hits apiece by Cain Spangler, Luke Spangler (2 RBI), Brett Hobaugh (2 RBI) and Marshall (3 RBI).
Marshall cracked a two-run home run on the heels of Cain Spangler’s triple in the seventh inning to take a 12-0 lead at the time.
The Seahawks (10-6) are back in action Friday night at Island Coast.

Lemon Bay 5, Ida Baker 2: Junior Branden Gutierrez pitched well enough to win – three earned runs, eight hits and 11 strikeouts over six innings – but Ida Baker was unable to generate enough offense in a loss at Lemon Bay.
Cecil Fitch singled to drive in Michael Watson (2-for-3) with the game’s first run in the second inning only to have the Manta Rays claim a 2-1 lead in the next inning.
The Bulldogs tied the game on Zack Nason’s RBI single in the fifth, but the Manta Rays answered with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the inning and added two for insurance in the sixth to seal the win.
Caleb Farmer was 3-for-4 and stole one base for the Bulldogs (9-9, 4-4 district), who host Cypress Lake Thursday.

Softball
Lemon Bay 3, Ida Baker 1: In a battle of District 4A-11 unbeaten teams, Lemon Bay took sole possession of first place with a victory over Ida Baker.
The Manta Rays’ first two runs scored on wild pitches. A third run came in on a run-scoring single after two batters reached on a single and an error to take a 3-0 lead.
The Bulldogs got their only run in the sixth inning on Hannah Kelly’s sacrifice fly following a triple by Louie Ross.
It is the first defeat for the Bulldogs this season and pitcher Maddy Peres (12-1), who took the loss despite scattering four hits and striking out eight.
The Bulldogs (13-1, 7-1 district) are on the field Friday at Kissimmee when they play Doral Academy at 2:30 p.m. and Frostproof at 6 p.m. in the Kissimmee Klassic.

North Fort Myers 4, Mariner 0: Freshman Sarah Waitekus scattered six singles over seven shutout innings and Allie Kennedy belted a two-run home run to seal a victory at Mariner.
Jasmine Santiago drove in the Red Knights’ first run with a single in the first inning. Santiago later scored in the fifth inning on the homer by Kennedy, who finished with a total of three RBI.
Left fielder Katie Grubb robbed Mariner of a home run with a catch above the fence and took away an extra-base hit with another leaping catch at the fence. No Mariner baserunner made it as far as third base.
Alyssa Langdale (5-3) was tagged with the loss for the Tritons (9-7), who host East Lee County Friday.
The Red Knights (11-4, 7-1 district) host Dunbar Thursday.

Cape Coral 4, South Fort Myers 0: Brenna Harkins pitched a three-hit shutout to help Cape Coral drop South Fort Myers in a District 4A-11 game.
Kristi Maselter led the Seahawks with a pair of singles and an RBI. Mallory Gerrero tripled for the game’s only extra-base hit and scored on a single by Maselter.
The Seahawks (8-12, 3-5 district) host Bishop Verot Wednesday.
