The Ida Baker Bulldogs gained their measure of revenge against Cape Coral Friday night for Tuesday’s loss to the Seahawks on a three-run seventh-inning rally.

This time the game-winning rally came in the bottom of the fifth inning and it was the Bulldogs who sent 11 batters to the plate to score eight runs to finish off the Seahawks 11-1.

The only drawback to winning the rematch for the Bulldogs was Friday’s game did not count in the District 4A-11 standings.

“I am proud of the boys, we hit the ball well,” said Bulldogs coach Ryan Jackson. “We’re starting to put it together. We did a good job of just putting the ball in play and making things happen.”

The Bulldogs (8-6) struck first as Dylan Placher singled to drive in a run in the second inning. Cape tied it 1-1 in the third, but the Bulldogs answered with two in the bottom of the third.

The Bulldogs scored eight runs in the fifth around two walks and five hits. Cecil Fitch scored the final run on a passed ball with two out to end it on the 10-run rule.

Sophomore Billy Larrimore (1-0) posted his first varsity win after pitching two scoreless, hitless innings with three strikeouts. Junior Michael Watson started and pitched three innings, surrendering one earned run on three hits with one strikeout. Cain Spangler (0-1) was tagged with the loss for the Seahawks.

Placher finished with two hits and three RBI to lead the Bulldogs’ 12-hit attack. Zack Nason contributed three hits and one RBI. Fitch drove in two runs with a single while Watson and Justin Pinto each contributed two hits.

Brad Kopale had two hits and drove in Cain Spangler for the Seahawks’ only run.

Both teams are back on the diamond Tuesday. The Bulldogs host Estero and the Seahawks (9-4) visit Fort Myers.
