Everblades player stays on the move

2 min read

The parade of players back and forth between the Florida Everblades and the American Hockey League continues with yet another transfer Tuesday and Wednesday.

As the ECHL’s Everblades enter the final three weeks of the regular season, forward Mike McKenzie was called up Tuesday by the Charlotte Checkers of the AHL. The Blades also received forward Dusty Collins from the Toronto Marlies.

But hold on, Collins, 26, hardly had time to unpack as his whirlwind week continued Wednesday. After being acquired by the Everblades last Friday in a trade with Ontario, Collins made his Everblades debut Saturday. On Sunday he was recalled by Toronto where he played in one game that night.

Tuesday Collins was sent back to the Everblades, but turned around Wednesday and headed to the Oklahoma City Barons of the AHL.

Collins has played in 11 games at the AHL this season with three different teams. He also appeared in 51 games with Ontario and Florida in the ECHL.

The Everblades also said forward Evgeny Timkin, 20, has been released from his contract.

McKenzie, 24, returns to Charlotte for the second time this season, having played in nine games with the Checkers in his first call-up last month.

The rookie ranks fifth in scoring (38 points) for the Everblades in 55 games this season.

The Everblades return to action Friday night to start a three-game, three-day series at the Gwinnett Gladiators.
