Gators pounce on Panthers 6-2
Chase Vogelbach got the Island Coast Gators untracked early, cracking a two-run triple in the first inning setting the wheels in motion for a 6-2 victory over the Cypress Lake Panthers Wednesday night.
The Gators made it 6-0 in the fourth inning, using a couple of hits, a couple of walks and a Cypress Lake error to put together a four-run rally to seal the win.
With two runners on and one out, junior Randy Petito squeezed home the second of the four runs. Senior Taylor Renegar’s infield single plated another run and senior Jordan Moody capped the rally with an RBI single.
“I’m happy to be 8-1,” said Gators coach Clinton Montgomery. “We have a good test coming up Friday. After that we’ll see where we’re at.”
Sophomore Tanner Renegar (2-1) tossed six innings, allowing the two runs on four hits while striking out six to earn the win.
The Gators (8-1) travel to undefeated Estero on Friday.

Island Coast 13, Cypress Lake 0: Darian Martin doubled and tripled to drive in two runs and Katie McDonald tossed a five-inning two-hitter to lead Island Coast past Cypress Lake.
McDonald (2-3) struck out six batters to post her second win on the mound this season.
“We played a good game with just one error,” said Gators coach Timothy Loughren. “We are not a big hitting team, so we have to play good defense to keep us in games.”
Besides Martin, the Gators were led at the plate by Dana Ruff (3-for-3), Khris Mims (2-for-2) and Tiffany Lawson with two hits, including a double. Five of the Gators’ 13 hits went for extra-bases.
