Baker’s Peres perfect in shutout win

4 min read

Sophomore pitcher Maddy Peres achieved perfection Tuesday night in Ida Baker’s 8-0 softball victory over South Fort Myers.

For the first time in her short career, Peres struck out 18 of 21 batters faced. She did not allow a hit or a single baserunner over a full seven innings.

Strangely enough, she almost did it twice in the span of five days. Last Thursday, Peres (3-0, 2-0 District 4A-11) struck out a career-high 19 of 22 batters in a 9-0 win over Island Coast. Marissa Gutierrez’s clean single was the only thing that kept Peres from throwing back-to-back perfect games. It gives Peres 37 strikeouts, and one hit, in consecutive outings.

Jessica Nuccio got the Bulldogs’ scoring started Tuesday night with a two-run triple in the second inning. Louie Ross and Sami Fisher also contributed triples toward the Bulldogs’ 10-hit attack. Hannah Kelly and Katie Rieser added two hits apiece.
