Island Coast started the baseball season with a bang Monday night in the annual Cape Coral Early Bird Tournament at Terry Park.

Island Coast’s big bang came off the bat of junior catcher Randy Petito (2-for-3), whose one-out, two-run double in the sixth inning ignited the Gators’ 6-3 victory over host Cape Coral.

With the Gators leading 2-0, the Seahawks rallied for three runs in the fifth inning highlighted by Brandon Marshall’s two-run single. Cody Carroll was 4-for-4 for the Seahawks.

After Petito’s double gave the Gators a 4-3 lead, Pablo Matos added a run-scoring single and Nelson Candelario hit a sacrifice fly.
