2 min read

Little League Baseball and Softball seasons are in the process of wrapping up with four divisional championship games set for Saturday. In a matter of weeks, they will enter phase II – All-Star season.

At Burton Park, Cape Coral Softball will crown league champions at the senior and division 1 levels. The Cape Seahawks take on the Tritons in the D1 finale while the Buckeyes and Gators go at it in the senior division. Both games start at 11 a.m.

In a double-elimination format, both divisions could be extended to a second title match Monday night if either the unbeaten Seahawks or Buckeyes go down Saturday.

Earlier this week, the Red Knights prevailed over the Tritons 3-1 for the fourth time in five meetings this season – including the Lee County Tournament championship game – in the major division final. The division 2 Tritons clipped the Panthers 9-8 to win that league title.

Over at Koza-Saladino Park, the Cape Coral American Little League’s minor A division crown is at stake Saturday when the Rangers and White Sox clash at 11 a.m. And, it’s the Twins and Dodgers squaring off at 11 a.m. in the championship match for the minor AA division title.

The majors division played two first-round games Friday in a double-elimination tournament. The Orioles shut out the Yankees 6-0 while the White Sox downed the Rays 6-1 in the openers.

One game is on tap Saturday with the tournament continuing Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. The championship game set for June 12.

Cape Coral National and the Babe Ruth leagues have not reported league or tournament results.

In the Lee County Tournament series, the Buckingham Yankees edges the Port Charlotte Tigers 2-1 in the championship game of the senior baseball tourney Friday night.

County Tournaments already completed and champions crowned include the Cape Buckeyes in the senior softball division and the Cape Red Knights in the majors division.

The Cape Buckeyes beat the Cape Gators 10-2 in the senior baseball division; the Fort Myers American Bulls shut out the South Fort Myers Mariners in the junior baseball finale; and the Hancock Marlins downed the South Fort Myers Dodgers 7-5 to take the majors division crown.

The first District 9 All-Star Tournament of the summer begins June 1 with the 9-year-old division. With only two teams represented in the division – Cape Coral and Fort Myers – it’s a best-of-three series.
