Three high school softball seniors selected for all-star game
FACA Senior All-Stars: Jackie Owen of North Fort Myers, Tara Higgins of Cape Coral and Allie Mitchell of Bishop Verot have accepted invitations to play in the Florida Athletic Coaches Association Senior All-Star softball games this weekend in Ocala.
Owen led North High to the Class 4A regional semifinal round, and was among state pitching leaders in strikeouts (281,) wins (20,) and earned run average (.38.)
Higgins was one of the area’s top sluggers, playing third base for the Seahawks.
Mitchell was a driving force behind Verot’s run to the Class 3A state final four. Mitchell was 9-5 on the mound and one of the area’s top hitters with a .455 batting average.
The FACA votes to select seniors from around the state who have excelled on the diamond, and divides them into four regional teams. Two semifinal games were played Friday with the consolation and championship games Saturday, all at Ocala Forest High School.
