Miracle drop 2nd in a row
After Fort Myers took a 1-0 lead in the first, the Clearwater Threshers scored six unanswered runs on six extra-base hits to defeat the Miracle 6-1 Wednesday at Hammond Stadium.
The Miracle dropped three of four to the Threshers in the series as their offense managed just three runs in the final two games.
The Miracle got their only offense in the bottom of the first, on a sacrifice-fly by Evan Bigley that scored Joe Benson.
Adrian Salcedo (0-1) made his debut for the Miracle on the mound allowing five earned runs in a four-inning start. The right-hander was activated from Extended Spring Training Tuesday to start in place of Bruce Pugh, who was placed on the seven-day DL Wednesday.
Cody Overbeck led off with his league-leading 10th home run of the year for Clearwater. Tied 1-1, Darrin Ruf singled before Derrick Mitchell’s RBI double put the Threshers up for good. Jeff Lanning doubled, a sac-fly and Anthony Gose’s RBI triple capped off the hit parade.
Mitchell added his second home run of the series, a leadoff blast in the fourth to put Clearwater up 5-1.
Fort Myers (17-22) looks to rebound against the Daytona Cubs Thursday.
