FGCU freshman garners two softball awards
Cape Coral resident Mariah Fernandez recently was named the Newcomer of the Year by Florida Gulf Coast University softball coaches and this week added the prestigious All-Freshman Team for the Atlantic Sun Conference. FGCU teammate Tiffany Upchurch also was named to the All-Freshman team.
Fernandez led the Eagles in RBI and landed in the top five in most offensive categories this season. Fernandez twice was recognized during the season as FGCU’s Female Athlete of the Week and twice as a “top performat” by the conference.
Fernandez was a standout player at North Fort Myers High where she set several soccer and softball career records.
