Fernandez earns 2nd A-Sun recognition
FGCU freshman Mariah Fernandez was recognized as a “Top Performer” in softball this week by the Atlantic Sun Conference for the second time this season.
The Cape Coral resident is a graduate of North Fort Myers High School where she set several career records in soccer and softball .
Fernandez helped lead the Eagles to a 3-3 record last week, including a sweep of Campbell. In a 7-2 victory Fernandez was 2-for-2 with two runs scored, two RBI and two stolen bases. In a 10-4 win at FIU, Fernandez belted her fourth home run of the season, a three-run shot to dead center field. She capped the week by launching a solo home run off of Stetson’s Amanda Lindsey Sunday afternoon.
For the week, the health science major batted .357 with two home runs, five runs scored and six RBI. She also drew four walks, stole two bases.
