FGCU clings to 13-9 win

In the first game of a three-game series at Campbell, the FGCU baseball team survived a ninth-inning rally to pick up a 13-9 victory Friday.

The Eagles rocked the Camels for 17 hits with each position starter recording at lease one hit.

With the victory, FGCU improves to 19-10 overall (10-3 A-Sun) while Camp-bell drops to 17-13, 4-9.

Chris Sale started on the mound for the Eagles, allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits, five strikeouts over eight innings. Sale improved to 5-0 on the year.

Junior Mikel Alvarez got things started for the Eagles with a one-out single in the first, and junior Tim Roberson doubled to right. Zach Maxfield walk to load the bases.

With two outs in the top of the sixth inning, the Eagles added to their run total on a home run by Maxfield and Smierciak laced a two-run homer.
