Snowbird classic returns to Charlotte

1 min read

Building on a successful tournament last year, the Snowbird Baseball Classic returns to Charlotte Harbor and the Gulf Islands again next month.

The three-week tournament – Feb. 28-March 20 – has 21 NCAA Division III teams registered as well as Division I programs from Duquesne, Fairleigh Dickinson, Ohio State and St. Louis University.

“The inaugural Snowbird Baseball Classic gained national attention and has encouraged Division I schools such as Ohio State to join in the action,” tournament director Steve Partington said in a statement. “Charlotte Harbor and the Gulf Islands has the ideal fan base to support all levels of college play and the tournament is an opportunity for athletes to fine-tune skills. Last year’s tournament resulted in the Tampa Bay Rays drafting Aaron Dott from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater when a professional baseball scout saw him play.”

Charlotte County Parks & Recreation will assist with the event’s ball field needs. Each team will play between six and 10 games.
