Shanelly Brown and Hannah Del Negro almost single-handedly carried the Ida Baker girls to victory over Mariner Tuesday night, but got plenty of help in posting a 73-42 win in a District 4A-11 matchup.

“It was sloppy at times, but we got 25 defensive rebounds against them,” said Baker coach Ashley Underhill.

The Bulldogs also got a game-high 17 points and a season-high six assists from Brown, a junior point guard. Del Negro added 14 points with Cheyanne Ross contributing nine points and Jackie Sanchez eight.

Megan Heroux led the Tritons with 15 points.

The Bulldogs enjoyed a 30-15 lead at halftime, then sealed the victory with a 29-11 third-quarter run. The Bulldogs (5-7, 2-3 district) entertain Island Coast at 6 p.m. Thursday.

North Fort Myers 62, Cape Coral 28: Cape Coral buckled under defensive pressure and committed a high number of turnovers in a lopsided loss at North Fort Myers.

Girls Soccer

Cape Coral 2, North Fort Myers 1: Emily Daniels scored twice in the first half to stake Cape Coral to all the advantage it would need in a District 4A-11 victory over North Fort Myers.

Megan Terzak assisted on the first goal with a through-ball pass that Daniels netted one-on-one against North keeper Brianna Abatisti (15 saves). Mary Farrella got the assist on the second goal with a free kick.

Goalkeeper Amanda Kopale recorded eight saves for the Seahawks (7-2-3, 3-2-2 district).

North’s Hannah Hamilton trimmed the final margin to one on a goal off an assist from Casey Gentile.

Thursday night the Red Knights (7-7-3, 3-5 district) play at Ida Baker and the Seahawks visit Mariner for a district counter.
