Prep report: Tarpons too much for Gators
The unbeaten Charlotte Tarpons found themselves in a fight with the Island Coast Gators midway through Saturday’s high school basketball game, but then turned it on for a 78-52 win.
Jordan Hrkach led the Gators (0-7) with 27 points, including seven three-pointers, and pulled down 10 rebounds. Bryan Lopez added 10 points and Terrell Griffin tallied 10 rebounds.
The Gators have played a difficult early schedule in their first full varsity season. They kept it close against the Tarpons (3-0), trailing 25-22 at halftime, but size and depth proved to be the difference as the game wore on.
“Charlotte is going to be strong all year,” Gators coach Matt Booth said. “They have a lot of height and a lot of speed. We played our hearts out.”
The Gators visit Cape Coral Monday night.

Girls Basketball
n Island Coast 39, Charlotte 29: Sophomore Larisha Blackmon recorded her first double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, powering Island Coast to a victory over Charlotte Saturday.
Senior Immon Pommerleau led the Gators (3-6) with 13 points.
The Gators host Cape Monday.
