Cape hosting Senior Games over 9 days
When the 18th annual Florida Senior Games State Championships return to the City of Cape Coral and Lee County for the fourth consecutive year beginning Saturday, a total of 288 individual athletes and 22 teams (98 athletes), from Lee and Collier counties, will enjoy home-field advantage.
A total of 386 athletes make up 23 percent of the total registration for the these games.
As of Nov. 30, a total of 1,656 athletes had registered to compete in 24 sports over the nine days running Dec. 5-13. The total will increase as the 5K and 10K road races will accept on-site registration on the day of the event. The 10K starts Saturday morning in downtown Fort Myers and the 5K race is set for Dec. 12 at Rotary Park in Cape Coral.
Twenty Bocce teams will battle at Veteran’s Park in Cape Coral over two days of competition, starting Saturday, with the men playing Sunday.
Volunteers are still needed to help with event preparations. Volunteers do not need an extensive sports backgrounds to help at events at sites managed by Lee County Parks & Recreation and Cape Coral Parks & Recreation.
