Prep Report: Seahawks rally for 67-62 win

3 min read

Cape Coral High shook off a slow start and overcame a lack of depth to post a season-opening 67-62 victory Friday over Cypress Lake in the host Seahawks’ shootout tournament.

The Seahawks are waiting for several of their players to return from the football team. They dressed only eight players against Cypress, but four scored in double figures.

Freshman David Flynn provided a spark with four three-pointers, and finished with 14 points. Joel Hill led with 20 points, including 12-of-15 from the free throw line, and Justin Mitchell scored all 12 of his points in the second half.

The Seahawks fell behind by five after one quarter and trailed by 11 in the second before picking up their play.

“They played really hard,” Seahawks coach Mark Rinehart said. “In the second quarter, they snapped out of it and created some turnovers and that got ourselves back in the game.”

The Seahawks (1-0) host Gulf Coast Saturday at 3 p.m. in the Cape Coral Shootout.
