Everblades take three from Toledo

2 min read

Florida Everblades fans were treated to a trio of games this past week with the Everblades coming away with victories over the visiting Toledo Walleye.

The Blades followed up an impressive 6-1 win Wednesday with a 4-3 win in a shootout Friday and a 5-4 win Saturday at Germain Arena.

After a slow start, the Blades have won three straight and there is a lot to be encouraged about from their recent wins. Especially considering the injuries, early-season road trips and changes to the roster.

“We have faced some adversity here early on with some injuries and poor efforts, but we have found a way to win a couple in row now,” said coach Malcolm Cameron.

He has good reason to not get too high on his team. The Blades are striving for consistency. They came out flat in the first period of Saturday’s win.

“Needless to say I was a little fired up in the locker room after that first period,” said Cameron. “We had talked about getting off to a good start and really coming out firing, and determined, but we came out flat as a pancake.”

Fortunately, with Mike Morrison in net Saturday night for the televised game, the Blades were in good hands. They found their scoring touch in the second period, scoring three times.

Florida’s power play, which had been stagnant so far, came alive against the Walleye with three power play goals Saturday.

“I have kind of stuck with groups a little more,” explained Cameron as to why the power play started clicking. “We have lost guys to injury and haven’t been able to get a rhythm going on our power play. Luckily I was able to leave some units together for a considerable amount of time.”

The Blades (7-5-2) look to extend their winning streak Wednesday when the Reading Royals visit Germain Arena. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
