FSU ‘right’ for BV’s Mosher
In her four-year run with the Bishop Verot Vikings, senior Katie Mosher has played in some of the most thrilling volleyball matches imaginable.
An example came earlier this season when the Vikings defeated rival Fort Myers in five sets.
In front of a packed gymnasium, the match consisted of huge swings in momentum and constant pressure from beginning to end.
“That was so fun to be a part of,” said Mosher, a 5-foot-9 libero. “The Fort Myers game was so crazy and in your face. That makes it that much better.”
Mosher figures to be in more intense matches at the next level at Florida State University.
She signed a national letter-of-intent with FSU Wednesday in the Senior Courtyard at Verot. Her parents, Bob and Lanie Mosher, sat with her at the signing table.
Verot coach Wynn DePasquale said Mosher has been a model of consistency, particularly playing such a pivotal position.
“Katie’s strength is in serve receive,” DePasquale said. “It’s very difficult to find a passer and serve receiver that is consistent all the time. It’s one of the most difficult skills in the game, with the ball coming from so far away with lots of movement and change in direction. It really takes quite an athlete.
“Obviously, Florida State saw that and that’s what they’re going to get,” DePasquale added.
Mosher is finishing up her senior season with the Vikings. They’re 27-0 and gearing up for Saturday’s Region 3A-3 Championship match against Tampa Berkeley Prep.
She plans to pursue a career in business and sports marketing at FSU.
Mosher grew up rooting for the Seminoles so it easily was her No. 1 choice when they offered her a scholarship.
“I’ve always liked Florida State, even when I wasn’t considering playing volleyball there,” she said. “I grew up loving the Seminoles, and hated the Gators, so being able to go there is so surreal. When they offered me, I wanted to take it immediately.”
Mosher goes from one successful program to another. The Vikings have posted back-to-back undefeated regular seasons, while her future team, the Seminoles, are ranked No. 15 in the nation. At FSU, she’ll play for coach Chris Poole.
Mosher’s experience includes being a member of the USA South club in Fort Myers.
“She’s played for a very long time,” DePasquale said. “She has seen just about every intensity level and has been in quite a few big matches where the gym is rocking, so she should be used to that atmosphere.”
