Blades reel in Walleye 6-1

2 min read

Powered by a two-goal night by Rob Hennigar and four points by D-man Elgin Reid, the Florida Everblades made a triumphant return to Germain Arena Wednesday night, defeating the Toledo Walleye 6-1.

“We played pretty good offensively and defensively,” said Everblades coach Malcolm Cameron. “We held the league’s best power play off the stat sheet tonight, which was also a plus We seem to play our best games when we play solid defensively.”

Hennigar’s hot stick started in the first period when D-man Scott Hotham found him 13:38 in.

With less than minute to play in the opening period, Earnie Hartlieb notched his fifth goal of the year, and the eventual game-winner after Reid found him charging to the net. The goal put the Blades up 2-0 heading into the second period, establishing a fast-paced tone for the night.

“We want to set the pace early in games, especially at home,” said Cameron. “I wasn’t a huge fan of our third period. We killed off a bunch of penalties early, but then we kind of played indicative to the score. At the end of the day, if we take some shifts off and they score, they feel better about themselves and we feel worse-and we don’t want to take anything away from what we accomplished.”

Hennigar scored again in the second period after receiving a pass from Hartlieb. Six and a half minutes later, Reid added a goal of his own, making it 4-0 before second intermission.

The win exacts a measure of revenge from the Walleye, who won two of three games in October.

Florida (5-5-2) and Toledo (6-4-1) play again Friday and Saturday night at Germain Arena.
