Prep Report: Baker knocks off SFM

The Ida Baker Bulldogs closed out the regular season Thursday night with a four-game volleyball victory at South Fort Myers in an LCAC crossover match that handed the Bulldogs the fifth seed for next week’s District 4A-11 Tournament at Fort Myers.

The Bulldogs split the first two games with the Wolfpack, then won the last two to pull out the 25-16, 18-25, 25-21, 25-12 win.

Chelsea Shafer and Taylor Van Horn led the Bulldogs with 10 kills apiece. Shafer added four service aces and eight digs while Taylor Van Horn had five digs and six service points. Payton Van Horn made four blocks and four kills while Taryn Maymon contributed three kills and five blocks. Kali Nordquist served 21 points to go with five digs. Chelsea Cline came through with 10 digs.

The Bulldogs (17-6) face fourth seed Lemon Bay at 5 p.m. Monday in the first round of the district tourney at Fort Myers.

Mariner 3, Lehigh 0: Mariner dispatched Lehigh in straight sets 25-14, 25-10, 25-15 in an LCAC crossover match, earning the 7th seed for next week’s District 4A-11 Tournament at Fort Myers.

Cody Sawyer led the Tritons with 10 service aces and five kills while Brooke Gudvangen contributed six aces and five assists.

The win puts the Tritons at 10-14 for the season heading into district playoffs. They face Fort Myers Monday at 7 p.m.

Bishop Verot 3, Naples 0: Bishop Verot kept its season record unblemished with a 25-21, 25-23, 25-21 victory at Naples.

Sarah Toggweiler led the Vikings (21-0) with eight kills, Katie Mosher served up four aces, Ciara Brown handed out 26 assists to go with three blocks and Katie Clinger contributed 16 digs.

The Vikings play two games in Ocala Saturday, facing Meadowbrook and Belleview to round out regular-season play. They’ll start District 3A-12 Tournament action Tuesday at LaBelle.

Swimming

At Golden Gate Community Pool: Oasis wrapped up its second season of competition in a tri-match in Naples.

The Oasis girls placed second with 55 points, setting six school records in the process. Seacrest won the meet with 161 points with Golden Gate third with 23.

Seacrest won the boys’ meet with 150 points with Golden Gate second at 64 and Oasis third with 54 after setting three school records.

Jorden Suchomel was involved in four of the record performances, two individually in winning the 100 fly (1:27.82) and 500 freestyle (6:50.31). She was part of two relay teams with Morgan Reeve, Callie Gerhardt and Maddy Worley that set marks in the 200 free relay (2:17.60) and 400 free relay (5:26.00).

Reeve added a record in the 100 breaststroke (1:56.16) and Worley set one in the 100 freestyle (1:28.22).

Vincent Perstad won the 200 freestyle in a record time of 2:10.41. He teamed with Collan Herby, Preston Seymour and Matt Perdomo to place third in the 200 free relay in a record 2:03.07. Herby added one in the 100 backstroke, finishing second in 1:10.32.

The Oasis girls finished 2-4 and the boys 0-6.
