TOLEDO – The Florida Everblades kicked off the season in style in front of 8,000 fans in the new Lucas County Arena. The Everblades quieted the capacity crowd most of the night holding on for a 2-1 victory.

Jacob Micflikier (1g, 1a) and Rob Hennigar (2a) led the way for Florida. Goaltender Mike Morrison was solid in net making 18 of 19 saves to pick up his first win in an Everblades sweater.

Florida got on the scoreboard first on the power play. Scott Hotham opened the scoring at 7:42 of the first stanza. Micflickier and Hennigar registered the helpers on the goal. The Everblades finished the period one of three on the power play, while Toledo was zero for three.

After a scoreless second period that only saw a combined seven shots by both teams, Florida took a 2-0 lead early in the third period. Micflikier picked up his first tally of the year on a great pass from Hennigar on a two-on-one break.

The Walleye would cut the Everblades’ lead in half just three minutes later as they notched their first goal in their new building. Maxime Tanguay was credited with the goal.

The Florida Everblades and Toledo Walleye return to the ice Saturday night and again Sunday afternoon.
