BV assaults Neumann by air, 38-6

2 min read

When the running clock is put into effect with one minute to go in the first half, it’s not a good thing for one of the teams on the field.

That team was St. John Neumann Friday night, as the host Celtics bowed to Bishop Verot 38-6.

A 35-point second quarter broke the game open after Verot (5-2) scored only a 40-yard field goal by Maxx Moore in the opening period.

Neumann’s only score came in the third period on a 26-yard pass from Dylan Woods to Garrett Braun. The PAT kick was blocked.

Verot quarterback Jake Kistel found his receivers open and hit 9-of-13 first-half passes for 175 yards and three touchdowns. It was the yardage after the catch that haunted Neumann, which didn’t tackle well.

Danny King was the first TD pass receiver from two yards out, followed by Jamie Alvarez on a 27-yard strike from Kistel. The third TD pass went to Jordan Diggs and covered 39 yards.

Donnie Farah added a pair of short TD bursts for the Vikings.

Verot invades Riverdale next Friday for a District 3A-11 clash.
