Baker reaches volleyball final at Mariner
Ida Baker split its pool play matches Friday in the six-team Triton Invitational volleyball tournament at Mariner, but still earned the right to play in the championship match Saturday.
After dropping the opening game, Baker stormed back to defeat Charlotte 17-25, 25-20, 15-8.
Chelsea Shafer led the Bulldogs with seven kills backed by Taylor Van Horn with five kills. Taryn Maymon threw up five blocks while Kelly Nordquist and Payton Van Horn contributed three blocks apiece.
Evangelical Christian prevailed over Baker 25-22, 11-25, 15-11 in the second pool play match.
Shafer delivered 14 kills while Taylor and Payton Van Horn added five kills apiece. Maymon added a pair of blocks and Chelsea Cline made six digs.
Baker and Port Charlotte play in the final match at 2 p.m. Saturday.
