Church collects soccer garb for missions
Church for the Nations in Cape Coral is collecting soccer uniforms to take to its Haiti Mission for the holidays.
The CFN church has joined with the Cape Coral Soccer Association to collect worn but still useable uniforms in both youth and adult sizes on practice nights and game days at the Cape Coral Soccer Complex on Trafalgar Parkway. The goal is to be able to outfit 200 or more children.
The trip is scheduled around Thanksgiving.
Sponsors also are being sought to help purchase size 3 and 4 soccer balls to give to the children.
“I have had a heart for soccer for 40-plus years,” said church spokesman Andy Gutierrez. “I know that Haitians love soccer as much as we Americans love football. Why not bless them with a jersey to wear when they are playing outside?”
There is an alternate drop-off location at Challenger Middle School at the corner of Trafalgar Parkway and Skyline Boulevard. The drop-off will take donations from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Saturday during a “garage sale for the Haiti Missions trip” on the school campus. Donations also will be taken at the school on Sundays during CFN services from 10 a.m. to noon.
