The Ida Baker Bulldogs controlled play in all three games Thursday leading to their second victory of the season over the city-rival Mariner Tritons in high school volleyball action.

Sophomore Payton Van Horn and senior Taylor Van Horn each pounded seven kills, propelling the Bulldogs to the 25-15, 25-14, 25-10 victory.

The Bulldogs (10-5) and Tritons (3-12) met for the first time last Tuesday, with the Bulldogs prevailing in a sweep.

Once again, the Bulldogs showed their depth and versatility, getting significant contributions from many different sources.

Seniors Chelsea Shafer and Taryn Maymon, and sophomore Brenna Hambsch each chipped in with five kills. Senior Chelsey Cline had five services aces, while Shafer and senior Deonnah Findley added four aces apiece.

The Bulldogs host another city rival, Cape Coral, Tuesday night.

Cypress Lake 3, Island Coast 0: After a sluggish start, the Island Coast Gators picked up their play in the final two games, but it wasn’t enough in a loss at Cypress Lake 25-6, 25-18, 25-15.

The Gators (2-14) continue their season Tuesday when they host Dunbar.
