Mariner High retained possession of the North of the River traveling trophy, but the boys’ tight golf tournament came down to the final card Wednesday afternoon at Palmetto Pine Country Club.

Mariner, Ida Baker and Cape Coral all were neck-and-neck as the last players finished their nine-hole rounds (par 36). The Tritons’ Braden Junkins handed over his card with 40 strokes accounted for to seal a five-stroke victory.

C.J. Cricco led the Tritons with a 1-under-par 35 to take medalist honors, backed by Kyle Schulte with 39, Dean Hofer with 42 and Junkins. That gave the Tritons a team total of 156.

Baker and Cape Coral tied for second with 161 strokes, with North Fort Myers and Island Coast wrapping up the field with 203 and 253, respectively.

Baker’s Dylan Fine and Cape’s Tyler Doyle led their respective teams with 2-over 38s, which Cape’s H Halverson adding a 39, the day’s only other round in the 30s.

The schools meet again Monday in the LCAC Tournament at Shell Point.

Girls Golf

At Royal Tee Country Club: Regina Sin, the only player to break 50, led Cape High to victory in the North of the River Championship with a nine-hole round of 45.

The LCAC Tournament is next up for county schools Monday at Royal Tee.

Volleyball

North Fort Myers 3, Cape Coral 0: One night after notching their first win of the season, the Cape High Seahawks were swept by North Fort Myers 25-5, 25-14, 25-18.

Allison Harper led Cape with five kills, Erica Hoegler added four kills and one service ace and Jen Le made three kills and one block.

Cape (1-13) visits Ida Baker Tuesday night.
