Verot airs it out in 31-14 win
Junior quarterback Jake Kistel ran for one touchdown and passed for two others to lead Bishop Verot to a 31-14 victory over Cardinal Mooney Friday night at Viking Stadium.
The Cougars marched 60 yards in six plays for a touchdown on their first possession. Cody Tope capped the drive with a 28-yard touchdown catch from quarterback Grant Flessner.
Verot shut Mooney down after that. The Vikings answered the opening drive with 31 unanswered points, finding the end zone on five of their next nine possessions. Mooney (2-3) scored on a long run late in the fourth quarter to close the final gap.
Kistel ran seven yards for the tying TD and tossed a three-yard fade in the corner of the end zone to Jeff Farrell and hit Matt Brewer in the third quarter.
In the first half alone, Kistel hit on 8-of-13 for 187 yards, one TD and one interception. Senior tight end Forest Campbell caught three first-half passes for 101 yards and senior runningback Donnie Farah ran for 78 yards on nine carries and one TD and finished with 135 yards.
Maxx Moore converted four PATs and added one field goal.
The Vikings (3-2) host Mariner in a District 3A-11 battle next Friday.
