Prep Report: Seahawks post first golf win
The Cape Coral High boys’ golf team recorded its first match victory of the season Tuesday, pounding out a 171-218 victory over North Fort Myers at Royal Tee Golf Club.
Tyler Doyle took medalist honors with a low round of 40 to lead the Seahawks, H Halverson carded a 41 while Anthony Myers added a 42 and Nick Dekeyser a 48.
The win evens the Seahawks’ season record at 1-1 heading into Wednesday’s match against Fort Myers.
Joe Caiazza and Zack Holten led the Red Knights with rounds of 47 and 48, respectively.
At Coral Oaks Golf Course: Senior Ryan Gallick gave his best effort, literally, in firing an even-par 36 to help lead Ida Baker to a 163-166 victory over Mariner. Gallick bettered his previous career-best nine-hole round by two strokes.
Despite that, the match was dead even with the top three scorers in the clubhouse and waiting for their teammates. Junior Dylan Fine parred his final hole for a 41 to put the Bulldogs (2-0) in front by one stroke. Then, junior Bryr Austen signed a card for a 43 to make it a three-shot victory. Cody Byers also shot 43.
Dean Hofer led the Tritons (1-1) with a 39, supported by C.J. Cricco (41), Braden Junkins (42) and Kyle Schulte (44).
The Bulldogs face Riverdale Wednesday at River Hall Country Club and return home to Palmetto Pine Country Club Thursday to take on North Fort Myers.
The Tritons host Cypress lake and Oasis Thursday at Coral Oaks.

Girls Golf
At Magnolia Landing: Regina Sin took medalist honors with a 43 to lead Cape Coral to a 246-267 victory.
Brittany Agricola was low scorer for North with a 55.
The Red Knights (0-2) host Ida Baker Thursday at Magnolia Landing.

Volleyball
Pt. Charlotte Community Christian 3, Oasis 1: Oasis dipped to 0-2 on the season after dropping a close four-game match Tuesday.
Port Charlotte Community Christian prevailed 26-24, 22-25, 25-23, 25-20.
Taylor Yoder recorded seven kills to go with three service aces for Oasis, while Samantha Dressel added three kills and four aces. The Sharks’ next varsity match is Sept. 29 at Everglades City.
Bishop Verot 3, Island Coast 0: The Vikings cruised to a straight-set victory over Island Coast 25-8, 25-5, 25-6.
Island Coast (1-3) visits Mariner Wednesday.
Cypress Lake 3, Mariner 0: Cypress Lake sent Mariner to its third straight defeat to start the season with a 25-11, 25-15, 25-14 defeat Tuesday night.
Brooke Gudvangen paced the Tritons (0-3) with three kills and eight digs. Teammate Sam Greenwell handed out seven assists to go with two service aces.
The Tritons host Island Coast Wednesday night.
Swimming
Cape Coral 139, Mariner 14; Cape Coral 114, Mariner 96: Cape Coral High’s deep and talented pool of swimmers racked up the victories in a dual meet against visiting Mariner.
They posted a 139-14 win in the girls’ meet and a 114-96 win in the boys’.
Along with those who placed high, Seahawks coach Dianne Kimble was pleased with the performance of some of her others swimmers, who are working hard and improving.
Sophomore Alex Potter, who began swimming last year, placed fourth in the 500 freestyle.
Mariner was led by Alex Strohmeier, who took first in the 200 IM and finished second in the 100 free.
Next up is the Shark Relays Saturday at Gulf Coast.
