Miracle-Reds rained out
The Florida State League South Division battle for first place was put on hold Monday night when both the Fort Myers Miracle and Charlotte Stone Crabs (23-20) games were rained out.
The first-place Miracle (24-19) return to Hammond Stadium Tuesday night to open a five-game homestand with the first three games against Palm Beach.
Miracle pitcher David Bromberg Monday was named the Florida State League Pitcher of the Week for Aug.3-9. Bromberg, 21, is the fifth Miracle player to receive a weekly honor this season. Other Miracle players to earn FSL weekly awards this season are Deolis Guerra, Chris Parmelee, Ben Revere and Michael McCardell.
Bromberg (11-1, 2.44 ERA) pitched a gem in his only outing of the week, a complete-game, three-hit shutout of Charlotte on Friday. The FSL All-Star right-hander issued two walks and struck out nine batters.
His next scheduled start is Wednesday at Hammond Stadium when the Miracle host the Palm Beach Cardinals.
Monday’s honor comes on the heels of the Minnesota Twins selecting Bromberg as the organization’s player of the week the previous week. He has won his last four starts by allowing only two earned runs over 28 1/3 innings with 26 strikeouts.
