Miracle roll past Reds 6-1

The Fort Myers Miracle struck for five runs in the first inning Sunday and cruised to a 6-1 win over the host Sarasota Reds at Ed Smith Stadium.

It’s the fourth straight win for the Miracle (67-45). They outlasted the Reds 8-7 in 13 innings Saturday night.

In Sunday’s win, Santos Arias pitched six scoreless inning before running out of gas in the seventh. Arias (6-1) walked the first two batters, but managed to escape with just one run allowed. He gave up three hits and struck out five to win his second game this season as a starter.

Henry Arias – no relation – pitched two scoreless innings in relief and did not allow a hit.

The Miracle jumped on Sarasota starter Matt Fairel (1-2) early. Jair Fernandez delivered a three-run double to spark the attack.

Fernandez finished 2-for-5 with four RBI.

Mark Dolenc was 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Ben Revere (2-for-4, run), Mark Dolenc (3-for-4, run, RBI), Joe Benson (2-for-4, two runs, RBI), and Alejandro Machado (2-for-4, run) added multi-hit games.

The Miracle had 15 hits in the contest and every starter had at least one hit.

The final game of the series is Monday at 7 p.m.
