Former FGCU player makes national team

Brooke Sweat (Youngquist), a member of the first FGCU Volleyball team and the Eagles’ career leader in kills, was named to the under-26 beach volleyball national team by the USA Volleyball beach department this week.

The team will represent the United States in international competitions this summer.

The beach athletes have been training in Southern California with Eduardo “Anjinho” Bacil, USA Volleyball’s head beach volleyball coach with assistance from Jon Aharoni, USAV’s coordinator of beach coaching and development.

The U-26 men’s and women’s teams can compete in either the FIVB World Tour event in Netherlands, Aug. 10-15 or Finland, Aug. 17-22.

The women’s teams are Christal Morrison (Costa Mesa, Calif.) and Cayley Thurlby (Lisle, Ill.) at No. 1 and Sweat and Tealle Hunkus (Redondo Beach, Calif.) at No. 2.
