Miracle rally for 9-6 win

2 min read

Deibinson Romero capped a stunning comeback with a three-run walk-off home run and the Fort Myers Miracle shocked the Jupiter Hammerheads 9-6 Wednesday night at Hammond Stadium.

The Miracle (43-26) wrapped up the Florida State League’s first half with a series victory against the Hammerheads (34-33). The win evens the season series at 6-6, and as a result no South Division rival was able to post a winning record against the division champs.

Romero’s home run – his third of the year – was a fitting finish just one day after the team set a new season-best record of three home runs in Tuesday’s game.

The comeback began in the eighth inning as Ben Revere grounded into what looked to be a routine out at second base. Instead, an error at first opened the door for Chris Parmelee’s RBI single, Nick Romero’s sacrifice fly, and Romero scoring on a wild pitch. That closed the gap to 6-5 heading into the ninth.

Miracle pinch-hitter Evan Bigley lined a single to center in the ninth and Chris Cates sacrificed the tying run into scoring position. Revere crushed a fastball over the right fielder’s head to drive home Bigley with the tying run. Steve Singleton was intentionally walked just ahead of Romero’s game-winning blast.

The Miracle begin the second half Thursday with the first of a four-game series with Daytona.
