Cape BMX riders clean up at state
Several riders from Cape Coral BMX competed at the recent end-of-the-season State Championships staged at the Sarasota BMX Park.
They weren’t too tired to make their way to the podium, over and over again. Cape riders had a strong showing, taking home awards in a variety of age groups and proficiency levels.
First-place finishers included Valerie Keyser (17-14 girls’ cruiser), Jamie Blinkhorn (26-34 novice), Timothy Peters (35-40 novice), Maliek Byndloss (14 expert), Geoffrey Banser (15 expert), Justin Riddell (16 expert) and Kasen Kompinski (14 rookie).
The local BMX team, Intense Racing, won both the Money Team and the Trophy Team competitions.
Cape Coral BMX track is one of 28 in Florida and consists of riders ranging in ages from 3 to 50. Riders start as rookies and progress to novice level, and in some cases expert level.
Though some members partcipate simply for fun, others train for local, state, national, regional and even world competitions.
In all, Cape BMX riders placed in the Top 10 in 66 different divisions at the State Championships.
