Miracle shut out Yankees 8-0
Mike McCardell is now unbeaten after starting the year 0-2 after teaming up with the Fort Myers Miracle bullpen in an 8-0 shutout victory over the Tampa Yankees at Hammond Stadium Wednesday night.
The Miracle (29-15) provided more than enough run support in a six-run first-inning onslaught against Jeremy Bleich (3-3). Rene Leveret started it with a two-run single. Evan Bigley added an RBI-single and Nick Romero launched a mammoth three-run homer to left.
The Miracle added a run in the fourth on a Leveret RBI single, and another in the eighth on Mark Dolenc’s first home run of the season.
McCardell (6-2) threw seven shutout innings, giving up a scant four hits with no walks and three strikeouts. After giving up 10 earned runs in eight total innings in his first two starts, McCardell is 6-0 in seven outings, lowering his ERA to 3.63.
Blair Erickson struck out the side swinging in the eighth before Alex Burnett recorded another strikeout in a scoreless ninth.
The Miracle handed Tampa (19-24) its fourth shutout. It is the Miracle’s first shutout of an opponent since May 7.
The Miracle send Florida State League ERA leader Carlos Gutierrez (2-1, 0.98) to the mound Thursday night at Hammond Stadium.
